🏗️ Gateshead Tower Blocks Set for Long-Delayed Demolition by End of 2025
Two prominent Gateshead tower blocks—Eslington Court and Redheugh Court—may finally be demolished by the end of this year, more than three years after their removal was approved.
Councillors first backed the demolition in February 2022, but delays followed due to ongoing use of the communal lounge by local charity Teams and Bensham Community Care (TBCC).
Gateshead Council now confirms it plans to also demolish the lounge area, with TBCC expected to relocate to Holy Rosary Parish House on Northumberland Street. Around £68,000 has been committed to help make the new site fully accessible.
Councillors will review final plans on April 29, but future redevelopment of the site remains undecided.
The high-rise blocks, once a key feature of the skyline, are set to disappear by the end of 2025, closing a long chapter in the area’s residential history.
