£17,000 worth of cannabis found as South Tyneside dealer is caught

Drug dealer caught with £17,000 worth of cannabis after police stop in South Shields

A South Tyneside man has admitted possessing cannabis with intent to supply after police uncovered drugs worth almost £17,000 during a vehicle stop and a follow-up search of his home.

Robert Winter, 34, of Farne Avenue, Horsley Hill, was a passenger in a Nissan driven by 56-year-old Shaun Bristow when officers stopped the vehicle in South Shields on March 28 last year.

Police discovered cannabis with an estimated street value of £14,400, along with a mobile phone said to contain evidence of drug dealing. A subsequent search of Winter’s home uncovered a further quantity of cannabis worth around £2,380.

Winter later pleaded guilty at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court to two counts of possession with intent to supply a Class B drug.

The court heard he has one previous conviction dating back to 2013. His case has been adjourned for reports, including a drug and alcohol assessment.

Winter is due to be sentenced at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 11.
