After 24 years, Kevin Phillips loses his title as the sole English winner of the European Golden Shoe

Kevin Phillips has lost his title as the only Englishman to win the European Golden Shoe after 24 years.

The newest recipient of the honor is Harry Kane, who wins it after scoring 36 goals in 32 games for Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.

Super Kev won the honour in the 1999-2000 campaign after scoring 30 goals in the Premier League and becoming the league’s top scorer, making him the first Englishman to win it.

In English football, he nonetheless remains the only Englishman to do so in the Premier League as Kane does so in Germany’s Bundesliga, a league which is arguably, easier than the PL.

SAFC fans and Phillips can nonetheless be proud that its taken a quarter of a century for another English football player to top that, what a legacy he continues to hold.
