Another weather warning has been issued by the Met Office for the North East, with heavy rain set to batter the region over the Christmas period.
After days of gale force winds, the Met Office has issued yet another yellow weather warning, this time for rain, which is expected to hit our area on December 27. Outbreaks of heavy rain will move north-eastwards across northern England and southern Scotland between 3am and 6pm.
Across the warning area, the weather service says 20-30mm of rain is “expected to accumulate quite widely”. Over higher ground of the Pennines, Lake District and Southern Uplands, 40-60 mm is likely during this period with as much as 70-90 mm in a few locations.
Strong winds will likely exacerbate any impacts from the rain. Snow is also likely for a short time across higher ground, although this will quickly turn to rain.
