There is public anger and concern after an elderly lady was turned away at Bridge View Medical Centre in Southwick after she stumbled in asking for help after a fall
First emerging on an account posted on the Fulwell, Roker, Seaburn and Whitburn community, the lady had fallen somewhere in Southwick on Thursday afternoon, entering the medical centre around 1.45pm, where a witness stated she was suffering and bleeding. Her condition was made worse through having taken blood thinning medication.
Despite her condition, it is reported that the receptionists at the practice turned her away and requested she go to the walk in centre. They did not attempt to help her, they did not call an ambulance, and the lady reportedly left the area “sobbing.”
The witness attempted to intervene and confronted the receptionists, grabbing towels, only to discover the lady had already gone. Now, people are worried about her whereabouts and wellbeing, with people complaining regarding the alleged misconduct of the receptionists.
After all, just because a place is a GP surgery designed for appointments, why does that mean people can’t help her? As pointed out on the group, had the woman wondered into a shop asking for help, she wouldn’t have been turned away saying “no, this is a shop sorry” would she?
SGM has contacted the surgery, as well as its complaints email, for comment.
