Are You Confident SAFC Can Get Promoted?

Whilst it looks likely, Sunderland haven’t quite secured the play-offs as we reach the final weekend of the league season.

The Black Cats’ face Morecombe on the final day of the season and they will be looking to get the win that will make the top 6 a certainty.

Sunderland can afford to drop points but they will need either Plymouth or Wycombe do too.

It will not be a work in the park as Morecombe are just 2 points above the drop zone and if results do not go their way, they could be relegated down to league 2.

But, say Sunderland do get play-offs, will the Sunderland hopeful be confident they can go up?

The Black Cats’ haven’t had the best of luck in previous play-off campaigns.

Most recently, losing 2-1 in the final minute of the 2019 play-off final.

Also, back in 1998 Sunderland lost in the play-off final again to Charlton in a match many people say was one of the greatest at the old Wembley Stadium.

The game ended 4-4 after extra-time and was decided on penalties. Micky Gray stepped up to take what was the decisive penalty as it was saved by the Charlton ‘keeper and Charlton were promoted to the Premier League.

Sunderland have also struggled at Wembley, however they recently ended their Wembley hoodoo after they beat Tranmere Rovers in the EFL Trophy final last year which was unfortunately behind closed doors.

So Sunderland’s history suggests that they may struggle in the play-offs, however their current form suggests otherwise.

Alex Neil’s side are now 12 games unbeaten and they currently top the form table in the league with 7 wins in them 12 matches.

Sunderland will be going into the play-offs as the team to beat and may be feared by the other 3 sides.

So do you think Sunderland can go up via the Play-offs, or do you think Sunderland will fall short once again? Or maybe not even make the play-offs!
