Baby dies in hospital after being airlifted from home

A baby has died after paramedics attended a County Durham house over the weekend.

Emergency services attended a property on Lisle Road in Newton Aycliffe at about 9.20am on Sunday (February 4).

Police, ambulance crews and the air ambulance all attended – with residents nearby seeing numerous blue lights on the scene during the day.

Following the emergency service presence, it’s been confirmed that a baby died a short time after being taken to hospital from the property.

The baby’s death is not being treated as suspicious by police – with Durham Police confirming the death on Friday (February 9).

A statement from the police force said: “Police were called to an address in Newton Aycliffe at around 9.20am on Sunday (February 4).

“Paramedics and the Great North Air Ambulance Service also attended and took a baby to hospital.

“Sadly, the child died a short time later.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

“Our thoughts are with the baby’s family at this difficult time.”
