A young mother from Blakelaw has been sentenced after launching a violent attack on a man during a drunken altercation in Newcastle’s Bigg Market — just two months after assaulting a bar manager and police officer.

Ellie Dilbert, 20, of Gorse Hill Way, was handed an 18-month community order at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court after admitting to biting a man on the arm, causing it to bleed, during a late-night incident in February. The bite occurred after Dilbert and a friend reportedly pulled the victim’s girlfriend to the ground. When he tried to intervene, she bit him.

The court heard that this was not Dilbert’s first outburst. In December, she was involved in a separate altercation at Pumphrey’s bar where she was caught on CCTV grabbing the bar manager by the hair and attempting to drag her over a pool table. When police arrived, Dilbert lashed out, swinging punches at an officer and kicking her in the legs.

The judge described her behaviour as “truly shameful,” adding:

“Biting is a dreadful thing to do. You would have hoped someone of your background would come to your senses.”

Dilbert pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assaulting an emergency worker, assault by beating, and being drunk and disorderly.

She was ordered to:

Her solicitor told the court Dilbert had no previous convictions and struggles with mental health, adding that she was remorseful and her actions occurred only while drinking in the company of “the wrong people.”
