BREAKING: An East End man has been jailed after biting part of a takeaway worker’s ear off and breaking their nose after they refused to give him free food

A violent Sunderland thug who bit the top of a takeaway worker’s ear off after demanding free food has been jailed for more than five years.

Wayne Kilty, 43, stormed into a Chinese restaurant in Sunderland and demanded a free meal. When staff refused and told him to leave, he became aggressive — throwing a plastic visor before dragging a worker outside and launching a brutal attack.

Newcastle Crown Court heard how Kilty repeatedly punched the victim as he lay on the ground, breaking his nose and ripping off the top of his ear with his teeth. The injured worker later required plastic surgery and ongoing treatment, and said he had never experienced anything like it before.

Kilty, of Stafford Street, Sunderland, admitted wounding with intent and was jailed for 64 months, with an additional 30‑month extended licence. The judge said he posed a “high risk to the public”, adding that his drug and alcohol abuse played a role but did not excuse the violence.

The court also heard Kilty has previous convictions and serious eyesight problems following an ammonia attack, but the judge said he had multiple chances to walk away and chose violence instead.
