There has been condemnation after a “doctored” image was circulated seeking to deliberately misrepresent a Sunderland community event.
Today on Saturday morning “Unity in the Community” will be held on Bishopwearmouth village green opposite Sunderland minister from 11 to 4.
The event is free of charge, involving music, free food family fun.
The day has been organised by various community groups and seeks to bring people together following the divisive riot which struck the city in August.
However, a fake image has circulated online manipulating its original poster and falsely claiming that the event is charging £10 for tickets, and that LGBT people get free admission.
The doctored poster was shared on Facebook pages and groups critical of Sunderland city council.
Organisers of the event responded by writing: “covers over the original words: FREE EVENT. ALL WELCOME. Very sad that there are some folk out there who are making this much effort to poison your minds! Get yourselves there! It’s going to be great!”
