A relationship that once “felt like a fairy tale” ended in violence after Christopher Taylor, 40, launched two terrifying attacks on his partner — leaving her traumatised and fearing for her life.
The court heard that during the first incident on April 12, Taylor came home drunk, grabbed his partner by the throat, and repeatedly pushed her onto the sofa, before pinning her against a door and warning:
“One punch and I could break your jaw.”
Weeks later, he pinned her down by the throat again, spat in her face, and demanded to see her phone to check if she had been texting other men.
His victim told the court:
“The events of that day were among the most painful and distressing experiences of my life. I’ve lost confidence and question how someone who claimed to love me could cause me so much pain.”
Taylor, of Park Road North, Chester-le-Street, admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault by beating, and intentional strangulation.
He was sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court to 14 months in prison.
