Data reveals 11 recorded attacks on firefighters in Sunderland in 2023, with most in Redhill

New data by the Tyne & Wear Fire and Rescue Service has revealed there has been 11 attacks on firefighters throughout the Sunderland area in the year of 2023
Throughout the service’s jurisdiction as a whole, there have been 28 of such recorded incidents. However this is less than Newcastle, which came first at 16. Gateshead had only one, and South Tyneside none.
Out of all Sunderland incidents, the most common place of occurrence has been Redhill Ward, which is attributed to a “small number of young people.”
This has included throwing bricks at them and other objects, verbal abuse, physical attacks and other “acts of aggresion”.
