A North Tyneside husband who threw a hot cross bun at his wife during a violent argument has avoided jail.
⚖️ Adam Scope, 43, of Burradon, was arrested after a neighbour heard aggressive shouting and called police on April 18.
At Newcastle Crown Court, he admitted common assault after prosecutors dropped a strangulation charge.
👩⚖️ Recorder Rebecca Brown told him:
👉 He threw a hot cross bun at his wife.
👉 Grabbed her arm and pushed her.
👉 Pushed her in the neck/chest, causing her to fall onto the sofa.
👉 Threw a blanket over her while grabbing her phone.
The court heard she suffered bruising but chose not to give a statement, saying the ordeal had a “huge mental impact”.
Scope, with no previous convictions, was given a 12-month community order with 40 hours unpaid work.
His lawyer said he was “utterly ashamed” of what happened, adding the couple were “anxious to reconcile”.
