Filming for the Sunderland based epic fantasy film, The North Star has been scheduled to begin September 1st, 2024, the studio has confirmed.

The film, produced by Mark Spayne of Smoggie Productions, tells the story of Sophie Scott, a young girl from Thorney Close who finds her life turned upside down on the call to become an ancient hero derived from Anglo-Saxon Northumbria of the picture’s title.

The concept is the first of its kind ever proposed for Sunderland, and is highly ambitious as such.

However, the studio’s financial troubles seen the project transition to Middlesbrough based Smoggie Productions in August.

Casting decisions, as well as pre-production, are now underway. It is expected the shooting schedule could take up to eight weeks.

A written novel of The North Star is set to be released first at the end of 2023 by Olympia Publishers. A Second novel in the wider expanded SunderVerse is also now in production.
