Happy House Surgery issues statement amidst poisoning case

The Happy House surgery has issued a statement following the arrest of one of its GPs on suspicion of murder.

The surgery, based on the Durham Road, stated: “We are not able to comment as this is a police investigation.

“The practice remains open and our priority is to ensure continuity of care and services for our patients at this time.”

Police have since emphasized that there is no wider risk to the public in this case.

Dr. Thomas Kwan, 52, is accused of murder by attempting to poison a man in his 70s, now publicly named as Patrick O’Hara.

He appeared yesterday at Newcastle Magistrates court and was remanded in custody.

A trial will commence on March 6th.

A second person, a woman has since been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, there is no evidence as to who this person is or where she works.
