The high Crown pub in Chester-le-Street has now put up a large SAFC crest on its front window after it was embroiled in controversy over its support of Newcastle United
The County Durham Pub had received a firestorm of online criticism from local supporters who pledged to boycott the venue for its NUFC mural, which had “Howay the Lads” written on it.
Since that time, the bar has been desperate to try and frame itself as a more neutral business in the bid to win back customers, having touched the well known “Durham Mag” sensitivity of Sunderland supporters.
