Historic fire extinguishers stolen from Borough Road building in break in

A Sunderland theatre space company has been left in dismay after a pair of antique fire extinguishers were stolen from their building on Borough Road.

Theatre Space North East recently moved into a new premises on Borough Road, a historic warehouse known as “The Street” which will also accompany a £4.5 million refurbishment.

However, the publicised move in attracted unwanted attention and last night the premises suffered a break in. With it, two historic fire extinguishers, believed to be over 100 years old, were stolen.

Describing them as part of the building’s history, Theatre Space North East has called for their return and urges people to be vigilant at any attempts to sell or redistribute them.
