A Hylton Castle man believed he was engaging in sexual chats with a teenager over Snapchat who he called “baby girl”.
Josh Sloan, 24 of Cardigan Road, thought he was messaging a 14-year-old girl over the social media app and sent an explicit picture of himself and asked her to send him a “boob pic”, calling it “our naughty, horny little secret”.
However, he was speaking to an adult, who had set up the fake profile to hunt paedophiles. The incident happened in January 2021.
Appearing at Newcastle Crown Court on Thursday, he pleaded guilty to to incite a child to engage in sexual activity and attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.
He was given a suspended sentence of two years and ordered to undertake 43 sex offender programme sessions along with 55 rehabilitation days.
Sloan will be on the sex offender’s register for 10 years and a 10 year sexual harm prevention order was also made.
