A Sunderland driver who failed to stop after colliding with a motorcyclist later came clean online – leading to his arrest.
Michael Knapp, 50, of Ribble Road, Hylton Red House, was driving a Peugeot 208 when the crash happened on North Hylton Lane on June 29.
Instead of stopping to exchange details, Knapp left the scene. He later returned, but the biker – who fortunately is not thought to have been seriously injured – had already gone.
The following day, a social media appeal was put out by the victim’s family to trace him, which resulted in him being arrested.
⚖️ He pleaded guilty at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court to:
- Failing to stop after an accident
- Failing to report an accident
- Driving without due care and attention
- Driving without a licence
- Driving without insurance
His case has been adjourned for sentencing on Thursday, November 13.
