About The Role

CER Education is recruiting a School Support Assistant, also described as a Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant, to work at one of its partner SEN schools in Newcastle upon Tyne.

The school provides Alternative Provision for students with a range of special educational needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD).

The successful candidate will provide individualised support to students aged between 2 and 19, working closely with class teachers to deliver tailored interventions and support strategies.

The role involves supporting both academic and social development, helping students build confidence, essential life skills and positive relationships. The School Support Assistant will also provide pastoral and emotional support and help create a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment.

Other responsibilities include supporting the implementation of EHCPs, assisting with classroom behaviour management and taking part in school trips, outreach days and life skills lessons.

The role is available on a full-time or part-time, term-time-only basis, with working hours between 08:30 and 16:30, Monday to Friday. The advertised pay rate is £14.25–£17.29 per hour.

CER Education says the opportunity is suitable for current students, graduates, career changers and candidates with previous support experience. Relevant experience can include work as a support worker, mental health practitioner, sports coach, teaching assistant or within childcare or residential settings.

Level 2 or Level 3 qualifications in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools are not essential, although candidates holding these qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply.

The role provides an opportunity to gain experience in a specialist SEN environment and develop skills that may support a future career in education or healthcare.
