Role Overview
- Mobile Catering Assistant working across various kitchens in Gateshead schools and council settings
- Role involves supporting the delivery of healthy mid-day meals for pupils and staff
- Work is part of the Property, Assets and Traded Services team, supporting Council buildings including schools
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing, cooking, and serving mid-day meals
- Ensure meals meet dietary requirements including vegetarian, religious, and cultural needs
- Follow set menus and food service standards
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness in kitchens, dining areas, and equipment
- Assist with relevant paperwork and records when required
- Provide high standards of customer care to pupils, parents, school staff, and leadership teams
- Support general catering and operational duties as required
- Work in line with LACA Professional Standards
- Undertake additional duties appropriate to the role grade
Requirements and Essential Criteria
- Level 2 Food Safety in Catering qualification
- Level 2 Health & Safety in the Workplace qualification
- Full clean UK driving licence and access to mobility (role is mobile across sites)
- Previous relevant catering or similar experience
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Flexible approach to changing work environments
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Commitment to high standards of food hygiene and service delivery
