Key Responsibilities
- Respond to customer enquiries and review applications
- Develop technical specifications
- Specify catalogue parts
- Optimise bespoke product configurations
- Create 2D CAD drawings and 3D CAD models
- Maintain design files and drawing registers
- Liaise with internal stakeholders to ensure design suitability
- Use computer-based tools such as Finite Element Analysis to develop part designs
- Carry out physical testing, including load deflection and leak testing
- Perform engineering calculations, application reviews and product specification
- Develop customer relationships and support the Sales team
- Help develop product range and performance
- Conduct technical investigations
- Provide technical support to internal and external customers
Requirements
- HNC, HND, Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a similar discipline is preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Comfortable liaising with customers and internal stakeholders
- Experience with Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD is preferred
- Experience with metal-based manufacturing processes is preferred
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
- Excellent communication skills at all levels
- Ability to work effectively within a small engineering team
About The Role
MTrec Technical is recruiting a Mechanical Design Engineer for a well-established and rapidly growing manufacturing company based near Chester-le-Street.
The permanent, full-time position offers a salary of £40,000–£45,000 a year and is worked on a day-shift basis, with an early finish on Fridays. An immediate start is available.
The successful candidate will join a fast-paced engineering environment within a North East manufacturing business that supplies its products and services nationally.
The role involves responding to customer enquiries, reviewing applications and developing technical specifications. The Mechanical Design Engineer will also specify catalogue parts and optimise bespoke product configurations to meet customer and application requirements.
Design responsibilities include producing 2D CAD drawings and 3D CAD models, while maintaining design files and drawing registers. The successful applicant will liaise with internal stakeholders to ensure designs are suitable and use computer-based engineering tools, including Finite Element Analysis, to develop part designs.
The position also involves physical product testing, including load deflection and leak testing, together with engineering calculations, application reviews and product specification.
The successful candidate will help develop customer relationships, support the Sales team and contribute to the development and performance of the company’s product range. Technical investigations and technical support for internal and external customers will also form part of the role.
MTrec is looking for someone with a relevant mechanical engineering qualification, preferably HNC, HND or degree level. Experience with Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD, metal-based manufacturing processes and FEA would be advantageous.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required, together with the ability to work effectively within a small engineering team.
