Northumberland County Council is recruiting a Children’s Social Worker to join its Kinship Team, supporting children to remain safely within their wider family network through high-quality assessments and ongoing support for kinship carers.

The successful candidate will complete viability assessments, Regulation 24 assessments, Special Guardianship assessments and fostering assessments, while working closely with families to improve outcomes for children who are unable to remain with their birth parents. The role also includes supporting kinship carers through preparation training, community support events, therapeutic funding applications and ongoing guidance.

Applicants must hold a recognised Social Work qualification, be registered with Social Work England and have at least one year’s post-qualification experience in statutory social work. The council is looking for someone with excellent communication skills, strong knowledge of child and family social work practice, and a passion for improving the lives of children and young people through kinship care.
