About The Role

Rocksteady Music School is recruiting a full-time, permanent Rock and Pop Music Teacher, also known as a Band Leader, to teach primary-age children across Newcastle upon Tyne and the surrounding regional area.

The role pays £28,000 a year, with potential progression to £33,000. There is also a £1,500 annual company bonus based on individual and company performance, giving advertised year-one OTE earnings of £29,500.

The role is Monday to Friday during daytime hours, with more than 11 weeks of paid holiday each year. A fuel contribution of 45p per business mile is also provided.

The successful candidate will visit multiple schools each week, teaching groups of primary-age children in a fun and inspiring rock and pop band format. Band leaders can teach up to 10 schools per week and will introduce children to instruments including drums, guitar, bass, keyboard and vocals.

The role is about more than teaching music. Band leaders act as positive role models and help children build confidence, resilience and wellbeing through performing together. They also support children in preparing for live performances at end-of-term concerts.

Applicants do not need previous teaching experience. Rocksteady provides full training, support and development for candidates who have the required musical ability, enthusiasm and passion for helping children.

Candidates must be competent on at least two of the listed instruments and need a UK or EU driving licence and their own transport. The role requires driving between schools and transporting, loading and unloading band equipment.

Rocksteady is committed to safeguarding children. Because the position involves regulated activity with children and young people, successful applicants will be required to complete an enhanced DBS check with a children’s barred list check.

The company states that the starting salary will increase from £27,000 to £28,000 on 1 October 2026. The potential salary progression is up to £33,000.
