Luton Town 1-2 Sunderland – Match Report
Chris Rigg and Romaine Mundle score, as Sunderland beat Luton Town to go 3 points clear at the top of the table.
Chris Rigg’s goal makes him level with Gareth Bale in scoring 5 Championship goals before turning 18.
It was a hard watch for Sunderland fans in the first 45 minutes, as they barely got out of their own half, and looked as though they were getting bullied by a much more physical side in Luton.
Although they struggled on the ball, Sunderland were able to defend well, with a lot of balls being floated into the box.
There was a few close calls, when Carlton Morris’ header deflected off Luke O’Nien and clipped the crossbar, and then Morris had a goal controversially disallowed for offside.
Morris was inside when he scored following a corner right at the end of the half, but it is believed that it was Jordan Clarke who was penalised for impeding Anthony Patterson in an offside position.
The second 45 was a much better watch for Sunderland fans, despite the first 10 minutes continuing like the first half.
Chris Rigg opened the scoring in the 55th minute, after the ball bounced off Chong into Rigg, who was through on goal.
Rigg wriggled his way through some defenders before slotting the ball into the net.
Just over 10 minutes later, Elijah Adebayo scored his first goal of the season from close range following a free-kick.
The ball was floated in to Carlton Morris on the back pist, and his first time pass found Adebayo, who was wife open right Infront of goal.
However, just 2 minutes later, Romaine Mundle cut inside and curled the ball into the far corner to send the Sunderland fans into delirium and earn all 3 points for the Black Cats.
The Hatter’s drop down to 19th in the league, just 2 points above relegation, whilst Sunderland go 3 points clear at the top!
