Man charged with voyeurism by filming other men in public toilets, including minors

A man has appeared in court accused of recording males, including minors, while they used the toilet.

Trevor English is also accused of exposing himself in public and making indecent images of children. The 44-year-old faced 18 charges when he appeared at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

The court in Newcastle heard how he was charged with 13 counts of voyeurism – recording a private act. The charges relate to him allegedly recording males urinating for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification.

Holly Clegg, prosecuting, said he is accused of recording unsuspecting victims while they urinated in men’s toilets.

The voyerism offences are alleged to have been committed in the Tyne and Wear area between 2012 and 2019. One of the charges relates to an unknown male aged under the age of 18.

English, of Benson Road, Walker, Newcastle, was also charged with an act of outraging public decency. The offence relates to him allegedly exposing his penis at the Metrocentre in Gateshead on June 19, 2019.

The defendant also faced one charge of taking an indecent photograph of a child in 2018 and three counts of making indecent photographs of children in 2020.

English, who was dressed in a grey jumper and grey jeans, did not enter any pleas during the short hearing.

Ms Clegg invited magistrates to decline jurisdiction in relation to the case. She told them: “It’s not suitable for the magistrates’ court.”

Chair of the bench Derry Nugent agreed and sent the case to Newcastle Crown Court.

She told English: “This matter, we can’t deal with it here. It’s going to go forward to your next hearing on the 8th July at Newcastle Crown Court at 10 o’clock. Until that time, you are on unconditional bail.”
