A man from Shiremoor has been jailed after a violent domestic assault in which he strangled his partner and pushed her down a flight of stairs.
Kyle Frost, 33, attacked the woman after suddenly “flipping out” while she consoled him as he cried. Newcastle Crown Court heard the pair had been drinking vodka when Frost received a message from his brother and became upset.
As she tried to comfort him, he pushed her onto a bed and began strangling her, squeezing her neck until she couldn’t breathe. The woman feared for her life and eventually kicked him away when she heard her teenage son return home.
Frost then punched her repeatedly in the face and head with what the court described as “considerable force,” before turning his attention to her son. The woman stepped between them and was then shoved down the stairs, crashing into her son and his friend at the bottom.
She fled to a neighbour’s house while Frost threw a vase out the front door, smashing it.
The victim suffered bruising and pain across her body and later said she was left in fear and no longer felt safe in her own home.
Frost, of Anne Street, pleaded guilty to charges of strangulation, assault, and criminal damage. He was sentenced to 21 months in prison and given a 10-year restraining order.
