Man Jailed Over Terrorist Documents and Child Abuse Material

A 21-year-old man has been jailed after police found bomb-making instructions and child abuse material on his mobile phone.

Vitor Dias, of Willesden, was sentenced to three years in prison at the Old Bailey on 24 April after admitting multiple offences, including possessing documents useful for terrorism and indecent images of children.

Dias first came to police attention in May 2022 during an investigation into indecent images being posted online. Officers from the Met’s Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation unit raided his home and seized two mobile phones.

While reviewing the devices, counter-terrorism officers discovered a large quantity of extreme right-wing terrorist material. This included guides on how to make bombs, firearms, and ammunition.

He was arrested in September 2022 and later charged with four counts of possessing terrorist documents under the Terrorism Act 2000. Dias pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey in August 2024.

Further investigations by the Met’s JIGSAW team also led to charges relating to extreme pornographic content and indecent images of children, to which Dias also pleaded guilty.

In addition to his prison sentence, he was made subject to a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and remains on the Sex Offenders Register.

Commander Dominic Murphy of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command said: “This case shows that individuals found in possession of terrorist material will be prosecuted. I commend the work of all units involved in identifying the threat Dias posed.”
