Man avoids jail after knocking out victim’s teeth in one punch

A 24-year-old man from Ashington avoided jail after punching another man unconscious in a one-punch attack inside a local pub.

Aaron Cutter launched the unprovoked assault at The Cree Public House on August 17, knocking the victim to the floor and knocking out some of his teeth. The victim was left with concussion, unable to eat or sleep, and said the incident had deeply upset his children.

South East Northumberland Magistrates’ Court heard that Cutter, of Rosalind Street, lashed out impulsively after mistakenly believing the victim had said something to him. He was already subject to a 12-month community order at the time for a previous offence.

Cutter, who now uses crutches after a separate injury, admitted to assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Despite his criminal record—including seven convictions for nine offences—magistrates handed him a new 18-month community order, along with a £120 fine, £200 compensation, £85 court costs, and a £114 victim surcharge.

His defence solicitor said Cutter had witnessed severe domestic violence growing up and claimed the attack was “completely out of character.” He also expressed remorse and offered a public apology to the victim.
