Manchester City 3-0 Sunderland – Match Report

The Black Cats suffer their biggest defeat of the season against a ruthless Manchester City side who close the gap to 2 points at the top of the table.

Goals from Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol and Phil Foden mean that the Citizens move up to 2nd in the table, just 2 points behind the current leaders, Arsenal.

Sunderland actually started the match really well, moving the ball around quickly, and really frustrating Man City when out of possession.

Ruben Dias went for a shot from around 25-yards out and he absolutely hammered it, and it deflected off of Ballard and fired into the top corner.

City doubled their lead in just 4 minutes, after Josko Gvardiol lost his marker following a corner and headed home.

The Black Cats still looked dangerous on the break in the second half, but Manchester City showed their quality and ended up finishing the game off in the 65th minute.

Rayan Cherki, who had an absolutely brilliant game, cut back on the bi-line and set up Phil Foden magnificently with a rabona, and Foden headed the ball home to put the game beyond doubt.

Sunderland did have their chances in the second half, with the game at 0-0, as Wilson Isidor pounced on a mistake and forced a brilliant save from Gianluigi Donarumma.

Moments later, Granit Xhaka struck the ball off the inside of the post after being left on his own in the box following a corner, so Sunderland were quite unlucky.

Sundwrland have dropped down to 7th in the table, but they could drop as far as 10th after this match week.

Next up for Sunderland is the big one, Newcastle at home, who sit just 1 point behind the Black Cats now after being below them since the start of the season.
