Morecambe 0-1 Sunderland – Match Report

Report

Sunderland make the play-offs and Morecambe stay up in what was a scrappy game in the final match of the season.

The Black Cats’ struggled to get into their rythm throughout the match, but thanks to an early goal by Nathan Broadhead who scored after he dropped his shoulder and slipped it past the ‘keeper on the 10th minute.

Unfortunately for Sunderland, the in-form striker Nathan Broadhead had to be taken off due to injury in the first half and could miss out in the play-offs.

Motecambe failed to register a shot on target throughout the game and The Black Cats’ themselves registered just 3.

Ross Stewart had 1 half chance in the second half after some great Skill slfrom Jack Clarke who ayes the ball into him but his shot was deflected wide.

The only other major chance of the game came in the 69th minute when Alex Pritchard played Patrick Roberts through on goal after some nice build up play but his attempt was saved by Carson.

Sunderland are set to play Sheffield Wednesday at home in the first leg of the play-offs on Friday and the reverse fixture will take place on the following Monday.

My Views

Well we did it!!

The performance wasn’t great but the play-offs are a lottery and anything could happen.

I still have full faith in Alex Neil and the lads to get us back up.

Hopefully Broadhead won’t miss out as he could be crucial in. our play-off push.

The lads really were poor today and it was slightly worrying to see how sloppy we were and also the fact that we struggled to really test their ‘keeper once again.

Looked OK defensively, quiet going forward.

Bailey Wright 6

Solid defensively. 1 or 2 misplaced passes.

Also solid defensively.

Struggled on his weaker side. Did OK defensively but had to kick the ball out of play countless times due to having to play with his weaker foot.

Kept the game ticking and controlled the pace throughout.

Elliot Embleton 5

A few sloppy passes and quiet throughout.

Alex Pritchard 6

Kept trying to make things happen but struggled against their physical defence.

Similar to Pritchard. Had one decent opportunity which forced a save from their ‘keeper.

Looked bright early on and took his goal brilliantly. It’s a shame he had to be taken off again.
