“Morrisons Removes Christmas Decorations After ‘Offence’ Complaints – Then U-Turns After Backlash”

A Morrisons supermarket in Bolton has caused a stir after it briefly removed its Christmas decorations — prompting furious claims they were taken down because someone found them “offensive”.

The decorations at the Atlas Mills branch vanished from the checkout area on December 13, sparking a storm on social media. Locals accused the store of “killing Christmas”, with some even threatening to boycott.

Rumours swirled that the removal followed complaints the decorations were inappropriate — though Morrisons has not confirmed this. The chain later reinstated the festive décor, blaming the move on a “miscommunication”.

Still, the backlash hasn’t cooled entirely. “Why do people think Christmas decorations will upset anyone?” one shopper posted online. Another added: “This country helps celebrate all religions. At this time of year, we should all embrace.”

Bolton Councillor Susan Priest also weighed in: “We celebrate it all. I want to see seasonal decorations going up for all of the different celebrations throughout the year — including Christmas.”

Morrisons says it won’t be commenting further on the matter — but insists the store is now fully decorated and ready for the holidays.
