The Munich Air Disaster, which occurred in 1958, seen 23 people die after a failed take off on a flight carrying the Manchester United team. This included 8 Man United players, 3 club staff, 2 journalists and a co-pilot. Manager Matt Busy, as well as footballing legend Bobby Charlton, were amongst the survivors.

Other Newcastle fans were also quick to condemn the behaviour, reminding themselves that they lost two of their own fans in an aviation disaster after Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 was shot down by Russian backed separatists in Eastern Ukraine in 2014.
