NEWS: A man has been jailed after brutally attacking a woman and leaving her with injuries so severe she now faces facial reconstructive surger

A Middlesbrough man has been jailed after brutally attacking a woman and leaving her with injuries so severe she now faces facial reconstructive surgery. Declan Begley, 28, was sentenced to around 30 months in prison for the violent assault, which stemmed from an argument at the victim’s home.

Court heard that Begley, who had been using crack‑cocaine at the address, became furious during a disagreement over missing drugs and turned on the woman, punching her repeatedly. The force of the attack was so severe that she now requires significant facial reconstruction.

The violent confrontation didn’t end there. Begley also smashed up parts of the property during the incident and later led police on a high‑speed chase through Middlesbrough while he was already banned from driving, compounding his legal troubles.

At sentencing, the court imposed a custodial term of about 30 months, reflecting the seriousness of the assault and Begley’s actions both during and after the violence.

The woman’s injuries have left her with a long road to recovery, both physically and emotionally, and her ordeal highlights ongoing concerns about violent crime linked to drug use in parts of the region.
