Pallion food store owner criticises police for “doing nothing” after £7500 worth of goods stolen

The owner of a foodstore in Pallion has criticised the police for “doing nothing” after £7500 worth of goods were stolen by burglars

Olusegun Adedoyin, a Nigerian Sunderland resident who owns the African food store on Saint Luke’s Terrace in Pallion, Sunderland, said he had been burgled repeatedly in the past few months.

He told the media: “Two weeks ago they broke in and stole £7,500 worth of goods – my shelves are empty and the police have done nothing.”

“I don’t feel safe coming to my business,” he said.

“They’ve burgled my shop, they threatened to burn down my shop, it’s virtually empty now and all of this was reported to the police and nothing was done.

“I feel threatened every day.”

Local residents in the Sunderland west community area tell SGM that burglaries have gotten out of control, with 9 shops in the Millfield and Pallion area targeted in a single week.

Northumbria Police stated: “A number of inquiries are ongoing, and high-visibility patrols will be carried out in the affected areas in the lead up to Christmas.”
