Pensioner jailed for trying to encourage mother to abuse her nine-year-old daughter in sick encounter

A pensioner who tried to encourage a mother to sexually abuse her nine-year-old daughter has been jailed.

Roland Mallows attracted the attention of an undercover police officer online because he was a member of a social media group called “Children with Kinky Parents”. The officer pretended to be a mother who was sexually abusing her young daughter and Mallows encouraged her to carry out degrading acts and send him pictures.

Andrew Walker, prosecuting, told Newcastle Crown Court: “During that conversation the defendant engaged in a conversation about child abuse and encouraged the person who he believed to be a mother of that nine-year-old girl to sexually abuse her daughter and to cause her daughter to engage in penetrative sexual activity and he solicited photographs of the abuse taking place.”

Mallows expressed an interest in incest and when they discussed the nine-year-old, he said “I love it” and asked asked intimate questions, including about what sexual abuse had taken place and from what age and said he wished he was taking part. He said he would like to meet the woman.

The chat moved to WhatsApp and he continued requesting pictures of the child. When sent a side profile view of a clothed child with underwear visible he said he loved it and that he would like to watch them.

When he was arrested, he said: “I’ve never abused or touched a child.” His devices were seized and a small number of indecent images and videos were found, along with some extreme pornography, including a 16-year-old having sex with an animal.

He accepted he had been talking to a woman about her sexually abusing her daughter and said he liked to talk about incest and got a “sexual kick” from it but had not carried out any child abuse himself.

Mallows, 67, of Turner Avenue, South Shields, pleaded guilty to two counts of encouraging the commission of an offence and six of possessing, making, publishing and distributing indecent images. He was jailed for four years and told me must sign the sex offenders register and be subject to a sexual harm prevention order.

Passing sentence, Recorder David Brooke KC told him: “You engaged in a discussion which included encouraging penetrative sexual activity with a girl you thought was only nine years old. It was in pretty stark terms, including degrading and humiliating terms. You have a deliberate interest in this type of paedophilia.”

Ellen Wright, defending, said: “He is under no illusion about the seriousness of the matters before the court. He is ashamed and remorseful.

“He has not had the easiest life. He lost his partner of 35 years in 2013 and after that he started drinking heavily.

“He knows there’s no excuse for his behaviour but he was heavily intoxicated at the time. He has a new partner and they have been together for seven years.
