Police issue statement on Seaburn Beach “remains”

Inquiries have begun after suspected bones were found on a Sunderland beach.

Police were called to Seaburn beach near Queen’s Parade just before 13:30 GMT after the discovery by a member of the public.

SGM notes this is the 3rd time this has happened in two months, but with one of the incidents turning out to be that of a seal.

Northumbria Police said it had cordoned off the area while the “suspected remains” were recovered.

A spokesperson added there would be an “increased police presence” in the area while specialist officers were at work.
