Reading VS Sunderland – Match Preview

Preview

Sunderland travel down to the Select Car Leasing Stadium this Wednesday night as The Championship returns following a weekend break out of respect for Her Majesty the Queen’s death last week.

Last time out, Sunderland suffered a disappointing defeat to rivals Middlesbrough 1-0 thanks to a goal from Riley McGree.

The Black Cats’ were hit with a devastating blow just before the game against Middlesbrough as their star man, Ross Stewart pulled up with an injury in the warmup.

Stewart is expected to be out for at least 6 weeks, and Dennis Cirkin is also out with a hamstring injury, but he is expected to be back soon.

Reading have had a little bit of a topsy-turvy start to the season, despite currently sitting 4th with a chance of moving up to 2nd with a victory, they have -2 goal difference following 2, 4-0 defeats already so far this season.

However, they have also played well in most games, as they have won 5 of their 8 games so far.

The Black Cats’ have only played Reading 21 times in their history, the first time they played each other was during the famous 1973 cup run.

The game ended 1-1, which meant the game had to be played again in a replay, and Sunderland came out on top with a 3-1 victory.

The trio of new signings; Abdoullah Ba, Édouard Michut and Jewison Bennette could all be in the squad to make their debuts.

Prediction

Score – Sunderland 2-0 Reading.

Scorers – Ellis Simms and Amad Diallo.
