SAFC just gained £2 million from Southampton’s Promotion to the Premier League, here’s why

Sunderland AFC have just banked an additional £2 million pound incidentally through Southampton’s Promotion to the Premier League.

The Saints returned to the top flight on Sunday by beating Leeds United 1-0 at Wembley in the Playoff final.

Now, SAFC are set to gain from the victory due to the terms and conditions of a selloff clause.

Striker Ross Stewart, who left the Black Cats for the Hampshire club, was subjected to an add on fee that offered an additional £2 million should they get promoted.

Stewart, who was an influential player for Sunderland scoring 36 goals in 70 games (1/2), left for an initial £8 million in 2023 but had already become injury prone by this point.

His injuries have similarly limited his participation at Southampton, having only made three league appearances in a year, having failed to score in any of them.

Good business by SAFC.
