Sunderland 1-1 Leeds United – Match Report

Simon Adingra scored his first Sunderland goal, but it was cancelled out early in the second-half as Dominic Calvert-Lewin scores for the 6th Premier League game in a row.

Sunderland did start the game really well and their pressure prevail led just before the half-hour mark.

Simon Adingra got on the end of an absolutely beautiful pass from Granit Xhaka, and he curled his effort into the top-right corner.

Brian Brobbey came really close to doubling the lead after some really good work from Adingra on the left-hand side, and Brobbey headed onto the crossbar.

Leeds came out in the second-half and put the pressure on from the off, and it worked as Dennis Cirkin got caught out of position as Brenden Aaronson took advantage on the right-wing and his cross found Calvert-Lewin who finished brilliantly.

Leeds ended up dominating the majority of the 2nd half, much to the home crowds dismay, but Sunderland managed to hold on and take, what turned out to be a well earned point.

They came closest to winning the game after Noah Okafor’s ball towards the far post found Jayden Bogle in heeps of space, but he couldn’t sort his body out in time to divert it towards goal.

Sunderland remain unbeaten at home, but face a huge test next up on New Years Day as they welcome Manchester City to The Stadium of Light at 8pm.

The Black Cats now sit 7th in the Premier League, 4 points below Liverpool in 4th, and Leeds are now 16th and 7 points above West Ham in 18th.
