Sunderland 1-2 Swansea City – Match Report

Sunderland’s play-off hopes are all but gone after a horrendous first-half display meant Sunderland lose their 3rd Match in a row, against a struggling Swansea side.

The Black Cats sit in 10th, 8 points away from the play-offs, whilst Swansea sit 17th, 4 points away from the relegation zone.

Young Brazilian winger, Ronald, scored a brace in the first-half to put the Swans 2-0 up.

His first goal came after 19 minutes, Liam Cullen’s header was well saved by Patterson, but the ball fell straight to Ronald, who simply couldn’t miss.

Just 10 minutes later, he was gifted another goal, as Luke O’Nien gave the ball away in a dangerous position, and Ronald was there again to make it 0-2.

Sunderland didn’t look that much better for the majority of the second half, but they did have a chance to get back into the game with just less than 15 minutes remaining.

Luke O’Nien got on the end of a beautiful Pierre Ekwah free-kick, and headed the ball home to give Sunderland a chance of getting something out of the game.

Anthony Patterson made his way into the box for the late set-peices, and almost got the equaliser at the end, but his effort was cleared off the line.

It really showed how much Sunderland missed Jack Clarke and Dan Ballard today, but that is not an excuse for that first-half display.

MoTM – Absolutely no idea.
