Sunderland 1-5 Blackburn Rovers – Match Report

Relegation threatened Blackburn Rovers run riot at the Stadium of Light, as Sunderland put up an embarrassing performance, leaving fans fuming.

The Black Cats drop down a place to 13th, and 11 points above the drop zone, luckily they should have enough points to avoid it, but the performance today doesn’t merit a team that shouldn’t be worried about the future.

Sammie Szmodics scored twice in 7 minutes, with 15 minutes reming of the first-half to give Sunderland a mountain to climb, and the way Sunderland finished the half, it already looked as though they’d given up.

Fans cried out for some changes at half-time, but Mike Dodds insisted on the same 11, and within 7 minutes, Sunderland saw themselves 4-0 down, thanks to goals from Ryan Hedges and Tyrhys Dolan.

Many fans began to leave, although I stayed until the final whistle, I couldn’t blame any fans who left, because it was a horrid performance.

Chris Rigg gave the remaining fans something to celebrate with 13 minutes remaining as he was in the right place at the right time as the goalkeeper saved an effort from Bradley Dack.

But it didn’t last long, as Blackburn scored one of the easiest goals they’ll ever scored just 4 minutes later, Szmodics scuffed his shot, but it fell to Andrew Moran, who could just run it in.

Its fair to say Blackburn never got out of second gear, and it was probably thier easiest away win of the season.

Next time out, Sunderland have Bristol City at home on Saturday, the team that have just leapfrogged The Black Cats into 12th.

Speakman needs to have a hard look at himself, because if he keeps running the club with this so called “model” then I’d hate to think what will happen next season.
