Sunderland 3-0 Rotherham – Match Report & Player Ratings

Report

Sunderland hammer the Millers’ in Tony Mowbray’s first game in charge with an exceptional performance.

The Black Cats’ finally have their first home win of the season, after a few extremely unlucky results in recent weeks.

Sunderland started the game brightly once again but struggled to take their chances, just like against Norwich on Saturday.

Ross Stewart had the best chance of the half when Lynden Gooch was able to get past his man and play it across the area, but Stewart’s shot was blocked on the line.

it looked as though it was just going to be one of them days as Simms and Stewart struggled to work Viktor Johansson in goal.

In the second half, the Black Cats’ really meant business.

Just 7 minutes into the half, Ross Stewart finally broke the deadlock as he got on the end of a fantastic Jack Clarke pull back.

There was no stopping Sunderland from this point, they dominated.

65 minutes into the game, the Black Cats’ got their second goal of the game, and once again it was thanks to Ross Stewart.

Jack Clarke was the provider again as he ran to the bi-line and bent in a cross with his right foot and Stewart managed to squeeze it in.

A marvellous second half performance from Jack Clarke was capped off with an outstanding goal to make it 3-0.

Clarke picked up the ball on the left hand side, and weaved in and out of 3 Rotherham players before smashing the ball into the bottom corner.

Rotherham were unbeaten before today’s game, but they were outplayed by the Mackems tonight.

A very quiet game for the ‘keeper. His distribution at times was slightly dodgy.

A very decent performance from the young man. Worked extremely hard throughout.

Another quiet performance by his standards, but he never stopped putting pressure on their defence throughout.

Not the best in the first half, but in the second he was magnificent, set up 2 goals brilliantly and scored a marvellous goal to cap it off.

Ellis Simms – 7

His build up play and holding up the ball was very good. Gave his all to get his name on the score sheet, but it just wouldn’t happen for him.
