Sunderland 3-1 Plymouth Argyle – Match Report

A brilliant second-half performance saw Sunderland come from behind to beat Plymouth, as they climb back into the top six.

In the 4th minute, the Sunderland fans applauded for Michael Beale’s nice, who is struggling with cancer, hopefully she can come through the horrible disease.

Pierre Ekwah, Jack Clarke and Jobe scored Sunderland’s three goals in the second-half to cancel out Ryan Hardie’s opening goal in the first half.

Sunderland started the match on the front foot, but as the first half went on, the performance started to decline.

Plymouth had the better chances in the first half, with Patterson making a few decent saves, but with 5 minutes remaining, Ryan Hardie timed his run perfectly and was one on one with Patterson before chipping it into the back of the net.

Jack Clarke did force a decent save from the Plymouth ‘keeper, Conor Hazard, and his curling effort was parried away.

Whatever Michael Beale said in the team talk at half-time worked a treat, as Sunderland came out and dominated the rest of the game.

Pierre Ekwah struck a low free-kick from the edge of the box into the bottom corner to level the game.

Just seven minutes later, the game was turned on its head, as Jack Clarke cut inside and finessed The ball into the far corner from 20-yards out to score his 14th goal of the season.

Jobe, who was dropped to the bench, was brought on on the 65th minute, and it took just two minutes for him to score an absoluty cracking goal.

He got the ball midway into the Plymouth half, dribbled past a few players before curling the ball into the corner.

Sunderland looked comfortable, as they saw the game out brilliantly to secure all 3 points and make their way back into the play-off places.

Argyle stay in 15th, with a relatively comfortable 7 point gap separating them from the relegation zone.
