Sunderland Festival of light announced for this October

Sunderland city council have applied to schedule the much beloved festival of light for October this year.

The event, which also took place last year, will take place in Mowbray Park again, as opposed to being in Roker Park where it was traditionally held.

The council has confirmed that Festival of Light 2024 will begin on October 25 and run until November 24, including half-term (October 28 to November 2) but not Remembrance Sunday.

A design, access and planning statement from the council notes the festival will “include a number of lighting features which will be situated throughout the park”, along with “children’s rides, food and drink and music performers”.
