Sunderland Guide: Silksworth Lakeside Park & Ski Slope

Location: Between North Moor and Silksworth Lane, New Silksworth (also accessible from Farringdon and Gilley Law)
Recreated in the early 1980s on the site of a former Colliery, Silksworth Lakeside Park & Ski Slope offers one of the most tranquil and refreshing man made landscapes in the city. With two artificial lakes populated by swans, rolling green hills and an abundance of trees, the area is perfect for peaceful walks, taking a dog out and general relaxation.
The Park is divided into roughly two areas, the lakes at the bottom and then uphill, a series of facilities. This includes a running track, football courts, a skate park, a children’s play area and at the very top, the “Ski Slope” an artificial all year skiing hill which also makes a fun activity. To the northeast of the park also sits the Silksworth Sports Complex, which has a swimming pool, tennis courts, sports halls and a gym.
We rate the area as one of the most underappreciated places in Sunderland, one which should also remind of its history. It is generally quiet. It is also possible to east from the park directly into Ryhope through the site of the former Colliery Railway.
Nearby amenities: Sainsburys, McDonalds (Farringdon) and a Cooperative Supermarket.
