Sunderland Guide: The Fire Station Bar and Auditorium

Sunderland Guide Home

Location: High Street Wise, Sunderland City Centre, SR1 3HA

The Fire Station Bar and Auditorium is an impressive icon of Sunderland’s city centre revival. Recreated out of a historic city centre fire station that been closed for decades, out of the ashes arose this splendid bar and restaurant facility which opened in 2018. This was later coupled with the creation of a new music auditorium capable of hosting up to 750 people, which was opened in 2021.

Intended by its designers to “restore and re-establish the area’s previous importance as the Edwardian heart and soul of the city” the facility offers high quality food, drinks and regular music events. In doing so it has carved out a niche as a fancy venue with a wonderful retro theme about it, and there is little doubt that it has cemented itself as an engine of life and activity within Sunderland City Centre, complimenting Keel Square, Bishopwearmouth Town Park and other developments changing the face of the area.
