Sunderland man jailed after he spat in Policeman’s face after they came to save him on the bridge
A Sunderland man has been jailed after he spat in the face of two police officers after they came to rescue him when he was on the other side of the railings.
Dylan Brown, of no fixed address, has chronic alcohol problems which are a product of a tragic family background whereby he was born with alcohol foetal syndrome, a situation where an unborn baby is exposed to alcohol by its mother drinking.
This has damaged his brain and given him lifelong alcohol challenges. On November 10th, last week, Brown was drunk and went on the other side of the railings on Wearmouth Bridge. When the police came to help him, he spat on one of them and threatened to do it again.
Members of the public intervened and pulled him to safety. After getting back on the ground he then spat at another officer.
Brown pleaded guilty to two counts of assault of an emergency worker by beating. He has a long history of criminal offenses including having done this to police previously.
He was jailed for four months. The court described his life as a “disaster”.
