The Black Cats’ host Wigan Athletic today as they hope to get their first victory in four games.

Sunderland started the season really well, but their form has taken a hit since they lost both of their strikers, Ross Stewart and Ellis Simms due to injury.

Despite being in the play-off positions a few weeks ago, Sunderland have now dropped to 13th in the table.

Wigan, who are also recently promoted have also started the season well, sitting in 9th.

They won last time out against Blackburn, 1-0 thanks to a goal from ex-Sunderland loanee, Nathan Broadhead.

The Latics have their fair share of ex-Sunderland players, which include; Charlie Wyke, Max Power, Nathan Broadhead, James McClean and Ashley Fletcher.

Tony Mowbray has confirmed that Ellis Simms is back in full training, and it shouldn’t be long until we see him back on the pitch.

The Black Cats’ have won their last 3 games against Wigan in all competitions, the last coming in a 0-3 away win last season, thanks to a goal from Bailey Wright and a brace from Ross Stewart.

Sunderland Skipper, Corry Evans will sit out today, as he picked up his 5th yellow card last time out against Swansea, and he is now suspended.
