Swansea 0-0 Sunderland – Match Report

The Black Cats miss out on a chance to climb back into the play-off places after failing to beat a 10-man Swansea side.

Charlie Patino was sent off for 2 yellow card offences in the first half an hour, both challenges were on Pierre Ekwah.

It was a debatable decision, as it seemed like a very harsh yellow card offence at the time.

Anthony Patterson also saved a penalty at the end of the first half, after Luke O’Nien pulled down Liam Cullen in the area, to save Sunderland the embarrassment of potentially losing against 10-men.

Carl Rushworth in the Swansea goal did make some outstanding saves to keep the clean sheet, but Sunderland will, ultimately, be extremely disappointed not to take all 3 points.

Roberts came extremely close to scoring a brilliant goal, as he cut inside and forced Rushworth to save the ball onto the post.

That was the first of 3 times Sunderland hit the woodwork, Jack Clarke hit the crossbar with a brilliant free-kick just before half-time, and Abdoullah Ba’s fantastic effort, right at the death, hit the bar, also.

At the end of the day, Sunderland had 25 attempts, with only 3 hitting the target, which will disappoint Mowbray and his coaching staff.

Jamaica Lowe almost stole it for Swansea, after catching Sunderland on the break, but Anthony Patterson saved comfortably.

Sunderland remain in 8th, 2 points from the play-off places, and Swansea City drop down to 14th on 19 points.

MoTM – Anthony Patterson (for the penalty save)
